2nd Grade Happenings

This will be an exciting year in 2nd grade. We welcome aboard two new teachers. The collection of stories in our anthology is silly stories and we will be doing activities to go with the stories. Math time will be working with patterns followed by addition and subtraction. We have a unit on the food groups and healthy eating. Next we prepare for our Aullwood Nature Center field trip but learning about Ohio animals and plants.

Meet the Teachers

Jan Hickerson: I started teaching gifted students in 1995 after completing my degree at Wright State University. In 1999, I moved to a first grade classroom and taught for two years and then moved to the fourth grade.  Starting this year I have the opportunity to teach second grade students. I have my masters in Education, also from Wright State University. Although I started teaching late in life (40) I love the job and the kids. I have three grown daughters, who are happily married and they’ve blessed me with 8 grandchildren.

Jo Schwieterman: This is my 27th year of teaching at Fort Recovery.  My husband Glenn and I have three daughters, two in college and one in High school.  I enjoy reading and walking.

Connie VanSkyock: This is my 38th year of teaching at Fort Recovery.  My husband Ron and I have 4 children and 3 grandchild. I enjoy traveling, reading, and spending time with my family.

Julie Winner: I graduated from Wright State University in 2008 and taught in Piqua for two years before coming to Fort Recovery.  This is my 3rd year of teaching.  I am married to my husband, Aaron, who is a 3rd grade teacher for Greenville City Schools.  We live in Coldwater.

Kristy Keller:This is my 10th year of teaching at Fort Recovery. This year I am an intervention specialist for 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades.  My husband Greg and I live in Fort Recovery and have 4 children.  We enjoy spending time together as a family.
